Press Coverage of My Sudden Cardiac Arrest

As I tell people about recently starting the Healthy Heart Guy blog and the reasons why I started it, I find a good number of people already heard of my story on the local news. Everyone so far feels the blog is a great way for me to personally respond to what happened on that subway train as well as a creative way to hopefully draw more attention to sudden cardiac arrest, the need for people to get certified in CPR, and the need for higher availability of AED defibrillators so they are within convenient reach of everyone.

For those of you who have not yet seen the press coverage I received in the weeks after my experience, here are the links to the two major stories:

Five days after I collapsed on the subway train, New York Presbyterian/Cornell Hospital organized a reunion for me with the two people in the subway car who responded first to me – a cardiology fellow and a former policeman. Also at the reunion were the NYC Transit police officers who brought the AED defibrillator and assisted the doctor, and also the medics who transported me to the hospital. It really was a very moving experience to meet all these people. WABC-TV here in New York broadcast a story of the reunion on their 6pm newscast that evening.

Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Michael Winerip wrote an article about my experience that appeared in the Sunday New York Times on November 5th. Mr. Winerip’s in-depth interviews with the people who responded to me produced some really great content for this story. As I personally have no memory of what happened on that subway train, I’ve learned much from what is stated in this article. It is a very good read.

I’m very thankful there was a good ending to my story and that it just wasn’t my time to go…
